Labrador Prints: Yellow, Black and Chocolate

Mike Sibley has the Yellow Labrador and the Black Labrador. Ken Messom has the Chocolate Labrador and a Flat Coated Retriever. Brian Hupfield contributes a Golden Labrador and a Golden Retriever. Having a choice of hand on the same colour of dog is genuinely useful, because the two artists work quite differently: Sibley is graphite and very tight, with the coat rendered hair by hair, while Hupfield's line is looser and warmer.

The Labrador is the most-owned dog in Britain, which makes this the section most likely to contain somebody's actual dog. That is worth taking advantage of: check the colour and the head shape against the animal you have in mind rather than ordering the first one you see. A black Labrador drawn from a heavy show-type dog looks quite different from one drawn from a lean working animal, and people notice on their own breed.

Mike Sibley has been a professional artist for over twenty years and often spends more than two hundred hours on a single drawing. In a short-coated dog like a Labrador that time goes into the things that are easy to get wrong - the set of the head, the otter tail, the particular soft expression the breed has around the eyes.

Everything here is a giclee print on archival paper with fade-resistant inks, so nothing yellows over the years. All seven are nineteen pounds ninety-nine. Sizes are around 41 x 28 cm before mounting, which fits a standard off-the-shelf frame without a trip to a framer.
