Hampshire has two Martin Goode watercolours, one of a town and one of the open country to the east of it.
Basingstoke is painted as the old market town it was before it grew, and the South Downs print looks out over the chalk hills that run from Hampshire across into Sussex - long, rolling country with very few buildings in it, which makes a restful picture on a wall.
Martin Goode was known for his attention to detail and his carefully constructed compositions, and his prints are small - around 15 x 10 cm or 20 x 13 cm before mounting - so they suit a standard off-the-shelf mount and frame.
These two are among the most affordable prints on the site: the South Downs is seven pounds fifty and Basingstoke is eleven pounds. The Downs continue into the Sussex section, which has Philip and Glyn Martin's In the Chalk Downs, and the Isle of Wight sits just off the Hampshire coast with eight prints of its own.
