Scotland: Eilean Donan and St Andrews Prints

Two prints of Scotland: Eilean Donan Castle by John Bird, signed and titled by the artist, and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews by an unrecorded hand. Eighteen pounds each, printed on archival paper with fade-resistant inks, never displayed, and sized for a standard mount. A small section - ask us if there is a Scottish subject you want that is not here.

Scotland is a small section - two prints - but both of them are subjects people actively look for.
Eilean Donan Castle by John Bird is the first. Eilean Donan sits on a tidal island at the meeting of three sea lochs in Wester Ross, reached by a stone bridge, and it is probably the most photographed castle in Scotland. What stands there now is largely a twentieth-century reconstruction of a much older fortification, which does nothing to reduce the effect of it. Bird paints it as a building in a landscape rather than as a postcard, and every John Bird print is signed and titled by him personally.
The second is The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, by an artist whose name was not recorded. St Andrews is where the modern game of golf was codified, and the clubhouse behind the first tee of the Old Course is the most recognisable building in the sport. It sits in this section and in our Golf collection, so if golf rather than Scotland is the interest, that is the better place to browse.
John Bird is a Doncaster artist who spent around thirty years in professional football before painting full time, and has since been commissioned by English Heritage, the National Trust and the English Tourist Board. In 2006 he was one of twenty-five artists chosen for the Drawings from Turner project, exhibited at Tate Britain.
Both prints are eighteen pounds. They are printed on archival paper with fade-resistant inks, have stayed in their wrapping since the day they were bought and have never been hung or displayed. Sizes suit a standard off-the-shelf frame and mount.
Two prints is thin for a country this size, and we know it. If there is a Scottish town, castle or harbour you are after, it is worth asking - the catalogue is larger than the website and we are happy to go and look.
