Somerset: Prints of Exmoor, Cheddar, Wells and Bath

Somerset is one of the deepest sections in the whole of Places, with more than thirty prints running from the Exmoor coast to the Mendips and the cathedral city of Wells.

Most of them are Martin Goode watercolours. On Exmoor he painted the Tarr Steps, Robber's Bridge, the packhorse bridge at Allerford, the Ship Inn at Porlock, the cottages at Selworthy and Bossington, and Dunster in several views - the Yarn Market, the working watermill and the village itself. Further east come Cheddar Gorge and Lion Rock, the Cheddar pump, Wookey Hole and its paper mill, the River Axe, Axbridge and its square, Nunney, Street, Glastonbury Abbey and the Tor, Woodspring Priory near Weston-super-Mare, and Wells Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace and Wells Market.

Martin Goode was known for his attention to detail and his carefully constructed compositions, and his prints are small - around 15 x 10 cm or 20 x 13 cm before mounting - so they suit a standard off-the-shelf mount and frame.

Philip and Glyn Martin add four larger pieces: Pulteney Bridge and Bath Abbey from Parade Gardens, Minehead old town, and the medieval houses of Bristol. Philip and Glyn Martin print strictly limited editions, individually numbered out of 850 and hand signed, and each original watercolour is used for one edition only.
