Yorkshire is the second largest section in Places, with more than thirty prints across the Dales, the Moors, the coast and the cities.
Martin Goode painted York itself - the Minster, the Shambles, Micklegate Bar, Low Petergate and St William's College - and a long run of Dales and Moors villages: Airton Green, Malham Bridge, Gayle, Thwaite, Leaholm in Eskdale and Knaresborough, along with the ruins of Fountains Abbey. On the coast there are Staithes, Whitby Abbey and Whitby Harbour. Martin Goode was known for his attention to detail and his carefully constructed compositions, and his prints are small - around 15 x 10 cm or 20 x 13 cm before mounting - so they suit a standard off-the-shelf mount and frame.
John Bird, who was born in Doncaster, supplies thirteen prints, many of them from the south of the county he knows best: St Peter's at Old Edlington, St Oswald's at Kirk Sandall, All Saints at Arksey, St Cuthbert's at Fishlake, St Wilfrid's at Cantley and Roche Abbey near Maltby. He also painted York Minster, St William's College, Huddersfield Station, Hull City Hall, King Billy's statue in Hull, Bridlington Harbour and North Landing at Flamborough. John Bird is a Doncaster-born artist who has painted for English Heritage, the National Trust and the English Tourist Board. His prints are around 41 x 28 cm and each one is signed and titled by hand.
Philip and Glyn Martin add Brimham Rocks and two views of Skipton. Philip and Glyn Martin print strictly limited editions, individually numbered out of 850 and hand signed, and each original watercolour is used for one edition only.
Goode prints are fourteen pounds, John Bird prints mostly eighteen and the Martin editions £29.95. If the place you are looking for is not here, ask us - we are a small family business and we are happy to check.
