England is the largest section of Places by a distance: more than two hundred prints of towns, cathedrals, castles, market squares, harbours and village greens, sorted by county so you can go straight to the part of the country you know.
Most of the collection is the work of Martin Goode, whose watercolours cover an extraordinary spread of English subjects - Dover Castle, Wells Cathedral, the East Gate at Warwick, Gas Street Basin in Birmingham, the Shambles in York, Tom Quad in Oxford and dozens of smaller places that rarely get painted at all, from Westmill village green to the lock-up at Ewell. He was known for his attention to detail and his carefully constructed compositions, and the prints come in small sizes of around 15 x 10 cm and 20 x 13 cm that suit a standard mount.
John Bird supplies the larger pieces. A Doncaster-born artist who has painted for English Heritage, the National Trust and the English Tourist Board, he covers subjects such as Stonehenge, York Minster, Tower Bridge, Audley End House and the churches around Doncaster. His prints are around 41 x 28 cm and each one is signed and titled by hand.
Philip and Glyn Martin account for another two dozen or so, including Pulteney Bridge at Bath, the Brighton Pavilion, Stokesay Castle and Skipton. Their prints are strictly limited editions, individually numbered out of 850 and signed.
Somerset, Yorkshire, Surrey, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire are the deepest sections, but every county listed below has at least one print. If you are not sure which county a place falls under, the search box is quicker than the filters.
Prices start from under eight pounds for some of the small Goode prints, most sit between eleven and eighteen pounds, and the Martin limited editions are £29.95. If the place you want is not here, ask us - we are a small family business and we are happy to check.
